🥣 Fairfax Soup Walk
🍲 Fairfax Soup Walk – In the Works!
The Fairfax Chamber is cooking up a new idea for early 2026 — a Soup Walk that would invite the community to sample seasonal soups from local restaurants, cafés, and food vendors while strolling through town.
This event is still in the planning phase, and we’re reaching out now to see who might be interested in participating or learning more.
The concept:
Each participating business would offer a small sample of soup to ticket holders
The event would be walkable, cozy, and community-focused
We’d promote it through Chamber marketing and invite locals to vote for their favorite
Targeting late winter / early spring, when things are quieter and soup sounds perfect
Nothing is set in stone yet — we’re gathering interest and feedback to help shape the format.
If this sounds like something your business might want to be part of, email minna@fairfaxchamberca.com to get looped in. Let's make something delicious together. 🍜

Fairfax Recreation is excited to partner with community members who brought this idea to our department. The original building was built in 1875 as a DANCE PAVILION by the railroad. On Saturday, April 5th we are opening the doors to hold a Square Dance Night for all ages. So, grab your family, your partner or come on down by yourself to enjoy what will surely be a festive evening of movement, laughter and joy.

About the program
Michelle Latvala reads from her collection of poems, Between Latitudes (Green Writers Press) at this book launch event.
“These poems arise from the depths of our collective knowing, both disturbing and stirring us to respond. Her words surprise, expose, delight, and interrogate. Rooted in the strength of lived experience, they invite us into the heart of grief and the mystery of grit, compelling us to wrestle with how we live on this planet.”—Kaira Jewel Lingo, author of We Were Made for These Times: Ten Lessons on Moving Through Change, Loss, and Disruption
About the book
Between Latitudes, Michelle Latvala’s remarkable debut collection of poetry, is rooted in both the practice of forging a life in the boreal forest of Alaska and finding footing in contemporary California. The collection provides a window into our complex human experience through Latvala’s vast emotional and poetic range as she explores interior and exterior lives across generations, latitude lines, and a changing climate.
About Michelle Latvala
Michelle Latvala put down roots in Alaska two decades ago, though her Finnish ancestors shared the same circumpolar boreal forest for centuries. Her poems are regularly featured in print, audio, and video—most recently in Kerning: A Space for Words, Alaska’s End-of-the-Road podcast, and Irene Young’s video poetry series. Michelle served as Executive Director of Spirit Rock Meditation Center for a decade, facilitates programs through poet David Whyte’s Institute for Conversational Leadership, and recently founded Insight Outside, incubating remote community-based programs that combine meditation, writing, and wilderness. Michelle migrates thoughtfully with her beloveds between her responsibilities in the forests of eastern Alaska and northern California. Between Latitudes is her first book.
